Charles-Henri and Emmanuel Fourny are the impressive duo behind Champagne Fourny, a particular favourite amongst our growers with their fine, mineral and decisively pure Chardonnay-based Cuvees. With Premier Cru vineyard in Vertus, it’s unsurprising that the brother’s commitment to the environment includes practising organic viticulture wherever possible:
‘Our intention is to intervene as little as possible and to let our wines take their time. This is why, after their first alcoholic fermentation, our wines spend more than six months on their own lees in vats or in old small oak casks… This pause lets them release all their aromatic complexity.’
The brother’s aim is to create a‘natural link representing a beautiful harmony between the fruit and the salts and minerals of the soil’. The Fournys are also masters of low and zero-dosage, and are fortunate in havingold vines – more than 40 years of age, a real advantage which brings regularity and complexity to their wines.
