Whisky Uncovered

Our fascination with the world of Whisky has taken us on a wonderful journey of discovery recently. From reading various works by renowned Whisky authority, Charles Maclean to discovering on YouTube a fantastic BBC series we somehow managed to miss at the back end of last year -   Scotch: The Story of Whisky, atmospherically presented by David Hayman who jokingly decries 'It's a dirty job but someone has to do it'. But as they say, someone's got to do it! Wine tasting, mmmm, you could say it's pretty much the best perk of being an independent wine retailer. I mean, how else are we going to select an exciting and diverse range of wines to suit all tastes and budgets? Well, you might wonder how on earth do you begin to decide what to source. To be honest, we've always just gone with our hearts and of course our palates; it has to begin with personal preferences, if you're going to sell a wine, you'd better be passionate about it!

Purity & Distinction

Two words which have lingered in my thoughts following last week’s visit to Redfold Vineyards in West Sussex, home to Ambriel Sparkling wines. Having stocked Ambriel Classic Cuvee and Blanc de Noirs pretty much since their release, it was a real treat to be given a private tour of this pristine estate by owners Charles & Wendy Outhwiate. On a stunningly beautiful autumnal day, we wandered the rolling vineyards, winery, bottling plant and even the on-site laboratory!

So that's what a concrete tank looks like...

We recently visited the impressive Ramon Bilboa winery in Haro, Northern Sapin and were very fortunate to be given a personal tour by Carlos Delage, Wine Ambassador and Area Manager for RB in Europe. The attention to detail and scale of on-going investment in the winery is truly spectacular and the resulting wines are a testament to this.
